Japanese Style Bath Tub

The Japanese style bath tub is different from what we are accustomed to using in the Western hemisphere. These tubs are shorter, so you have to sit with your legs pulled up against your chest, and the tub is deeper so the water will come to your shoulders. The cube shape of the tub allows you to soak your entire body in the water, helping your muscles relax. When you bathe in a Japanese soaking tub, you wash with soap and rinse off in another area. A result of the separate washing area is that the water in the tub remains clean and can be used by more than one bather. The shape of the Japanese style bath tub uses less water than a traditional bath tub, and many times the water is reused between bathers. Because the bathers wash up before getting into the Japanese style bath tub, the water is clean, and you need only get into the water to soak.

When you go to a bath house in Japan, youll find that the bath tubs there have extremely hot water. When visiting a Japanese batroom, you may find the heat of the water to be unbearable at first. However, the heat itself helps your muscles relax. Additionally, if you have tired or aching muscles, the heat will help ease the pain and stiffness.

Though a traditional Japanese style bath tub is made of wood, the Japanese bath tubs available in the West are made of ceramic tile or other materials. Many of these tubs available in the West have a seat formed into the tub, so you dont have to be flexible enough to draw your knees up to your chest. You wont find yourself cramped in the tub, feeling like youre stuck in a closet. Instead, youll be sitting in the tub like you were sitting in a chair in some versions of the Japanese style bath tub.

Other new Japanese style bath tubs have arm and foot rests for you to use, helping you get comfortable while you are relaxing in the water. Because these tubs are so deep, the tub is generally sunk into the floor or the ground. Youll want to be sure that you get the right type of Japanese style bath tub for the location youre putting it in. If your bathing room is on the second floor, you will want to be sure that you dont get a Japanese style bath tub that needs to be sunk into the ground. Tubs that are above the ground are easier for the elderly or otherwise infirm to get in and out of.

A newer Japanese style bath tub can be programmed to fill the Japanese hot tub with the specified temperature of water at the time you choose. Many times, the water in a Japanese style bath tub is kept in the tub and reused. In that case, you can program the thermostat to the desired temperature, and your water will be heated to that temperature.
